Powertec Home Gym (WB-LS)

Powertec Workbench Leverage System. The characteristic yellow Powertec gyms set the standard for leverage home gym systems. They are like a hybrid between a home gym machine and free weights. You can train super heavy but with the convenience and safety of a home gym machine. In particular, you don't need a spotter and you can squat (the bench can be rotated 90 degrees). In the opinion of Home Gym Review, these 2 features puts the Powertec Workbench Leverage System Leverage in the best home gyms category.
This model, the WB-LS is at the bottom end of the Powertec price range but it really is a versatile home gym. You can do over 20 exercises on this gym thanks to some great engineering..... "Only 20?!" I hear you say. Don't worry if that sounds like not many because it is more than enough to train everything thoroughly. When some manufactures claim their gym has 70+ possible exercises they are appealing to inexperienced trainers who don't realize that you will never use or need that many exercises. Or that a lot of those exercises are just no good. The best home gyms aren't known as the best home gyms just because they have heaps of exercises.

Pros
We didn't list heaps of pros here but the ones we did list are very strong
you can do squats. It is universally accepted that squats are the greatest all-over exercise. Any trainer really serious about growing big, big muscles uses squats as the core of their program
you don't need a spotter. You are never in danger of becoming trapped under the barbell because the press arms are U-shaped
you can lift huge amounts of weight on the Powertec WB-LS. For example, 1000lbs on the press or 400lbs on the lat pulldown!
bench can be used for dumbbell exercises
excellent quality
Cons
if you are tall you may find the low row a bit short for standing exercises. But that can be fixed by adding a bit of chain between the end of the cable and the handle or bar
not a biggy but you will need a helper or a few spare hours to put the Powertec WB-LS together. There are like over 50 bolts!
Overall
I wouldn't recommend this gym to the beginner. Its really best suited to the experienced heavy lifter. A glaringly absent feature of nearly every home gym is the squat. Leg press is good but squats are more effective. If squats are your thing check out the Powertec WB-LS.
